This medal is closely related to the revelations received by Marie-Julie Jahenny during several ecstasies, and recalls the particular devotion that this pious stigmatized person devoted to the veneration of the Cross and to the Most Holy Virgin whom she so often implored at foot of the ancient statue of Notre-Dame de la Bonne Garde.
The Most Holy Virgin revealed the origin of this statue during the ecstasy of November 28, 1878 in these words: “My child, this is my story. I was sculpted by a poor cripple who, following great bodily ailments, became lame and counterfeit. He was poor, but religiously raised. Unable to live without work, he offered himself to a comfortable family to look after the herds. While he was in the pastures he often said to himself: “I have never done anything to praise, to honor the Blessed Virgin who gave me life, despite so much suffering.” One day he asked his master for the heart of a tree, and it fulfilled his desire. He carved the piece of wood and every day he progressed his work. I helped him and he finished the statue, he put Me in his little corner where he slept. After his death the statue remained in the family of its masters for a long time. “In the early days, I had My little oratory, poor but rich in visits, Christian mothers came to consecrate their little children to Me, many priests kissed My statue.
I have often avoided the dangers and perils that descended on My children. Subsequently I was given to an old priest who kept Me until his death. But, shortly before, I said to him three times: “My son, your heirs are not Christians, they will not pay Me the homage that I deserve; before you die you will carry Me to a swamp a few miles from here where a small stream of water passes – you will turn My head towards Nazareth – you will make Me a small sanctuary in the shape of a tomb. Without making your secret known, you will carry Me into the silence of the night, reciting a prayer to Me. You will lock Me up and you will die with your secret. You will prick some thorny plants, they will grow quickly, and I will remain buried in this place. The Blessed Virgin added that after many years, the time arrived when She was to go out. It was then that His Divine Son caused a luminous torch to fall from Heaven, on the place where the statue was buried, which attracted attention. The sealed stone was opened with respect and great veneration was preserved for this place. “I was intact” said the Blessed Virgin. “Immediately prayers were said and I manifested My glory by restoring health to a little child. » “My name is Notre-Dame de la Bonne Garde. » (Extract from the explanatory note )
